10. Pascal Groß

Pascal Groß’s Wikipedia page describes the German as a ‘utility player’, something that has endeared him to fans on the South Coast. Having flourished under Graham Potter, Groß has taken a further step forward under Roberto De Zerbi and has been rewarded for a fine start to the season with a first call up to the German national side back in September, he went on to win two caps against Japan and France.

9. Ollie Watkins

Ollie Watkins has been integral to an Aston Villa side that has made a flying start to the season. Watkins has an excellent one goal contribution per game currently having scored four and provided a further four assists so far this season. A stunning hattrick against Brighton has helped the striker earn a recall to the England national team ahead of the international break.

8. Cristian Romero

Cristian Romero has emerged as one of the finest defenders playing in the Premier League today in large part due to Tottenham’s resurgence under Ange Postecoglou. In truth, the Argentine has played a key role at the back helping Spurs keep three clean sheets while scoring twice down the other end of the pitch. A blossoming partnership with Micky van de Ven has addressed a problem area for Tottenham who top the table.

7. Erling Haaland

Breaking the single season Premier League goal record in your debut season is an astonishing feat, but Erling Haaland is threatening to top that again this time out. With eight goals in as many appearances, the Norwegian striker hasn’t looked as prolific as his usual self as of late - but is still two goals clear of the chasing pack among top scorers this season.

6. Joachim Andersen

Joachim Andersen’s performance and match-winning goal against Manchester United at the end of September just further highlighted his importance as one of, if not the most, important player in the Crystal Palace team. Alongside Marc Guehi, the Danish defender has kept four clean sheets for Palace and like Romero has netted twice - including the aforementioned winner against United, which was a stunning half-volley.

5. Son Heung-min

No Kane, no problem. For all the doom and gloom surrounding Spurs prior to the season, not one of their fans could’ve predicted an unbeaten start after eight games - a run that has taken them to the summit of the league. The departure of England captain Kane saw the captain’s armband handed to Son Heung-min who has led from the front with six goals so far this season.

Who Scored Player Rating: 7.34

4. Mohamed Salah

With five goals and four assists Mohamed Salah, alongslide Erling Haaland, has the best goal contribution ratio in the Premier League so far this season. Such is his brilliance, many have questioned his input over the past 18 months despite his consistent figures. Since returning to the Premier League in 2017, Salah has scored 20+ goals in four out of the past six campaigns - and the two he didn’t? He scored 19.

3. Rodri

Manchester City are badly missing their 'brain' in Rodri as Pep Guardiola's side have struggled as of late during his red card suspension. His importance to the champions has been underlined as City have endured three domestic defeats from three without him. With two goals and a further assist this term, the Spaniard is undoubtedly the gold standard in his position and is detrimental to City’s success.

Who Scored Player Rating: 7.62

2. Bukayo Saka

Generally speaking, you have to make some waves to end up on the Ballon d'Or shortlist - and Bukayo Saka has done just that. The 22-year-old forward has six goal contributions in the Premier League so far and has emerged as a talismanic for the Gunners. Mikel Arteta has helped Saka develop into one of the world’s best wingers, his form on international duty has also seen him named as England men's player of the year for the second season running.

Who Scored Player Rating: 7.74

1. James Maddison

The undisputed signing of the season has been utterly sensational for Tottenham since signing from relegated Leicester. The £40 million that was spent on acquiring the 26-year-old becomes increasingly unbelievable by the day, especially given the lack of competition for Maddison’s signature. With seven goal involvements, Spurs’ number 10 has hit the ground running forming a formidable tandem with Son Heung-min and tops the assist chart with five alongside Pedro Neto and Kieran Trippier.
